Your Holy Family
Week 1, Day 6 (Day 6 of 33)

Daily Prayer

The Magnificat

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
He has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Mary, Our Mother

Gospel Reading from the Gospel of John 15:12-17 – Love one another

How much do you love your friends?  Would you do anything for them?

All Love is From God

Humility is knowing who we are, and being honest about what we can and can’t do.  To be humble, we must admit that we are only human and that we are created by God.  We must admire the Father because He is God, He is all-powerful, and He knows everything; and, at the same time, we must admit that we are not all powerful and that we don’t know everything.

Everything we have, we have because God gave it to us.  Whatever talents we have, we have because God gave them to us.  We don’t have anything that did not come from God.

What talents do you have?

Answers will vary. If a child can’t come up with something, other family members may tell them what they think their talents are.

The devil was created by God, but he rejected God’s plan of salvation.  He admits that God is the creator of all things, but does not accept Him as Father.  We must be careful that we do not fall into the same error as the devil.  God is our loving Father, Who gives us gifts for our own good.

God is the cause of our joy, and we must not forget this fact.  The Immaculate Conception is a reminder of the great gifts that God has given us, and what He has given to Mary.  Even if we make mistakes or experience difficulties, we must not let these things reduce our joy of knowing that God loves us and gives us such great gifts.  Mary, and her Immaculate Conception, is a gift from God to each of us (see John 19:27).

It is hard to be joyful all the time; what can we do to always remember that God loves us?

– We need to adore God daily, acknowledge His goodness, and know that He is our Father and Creator.
– The key to happiness is JOY–Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last.

How can we show that we love our neighbor?

We can show our love for our neighbor by acts of kindness – bringing meals to the sick and suffering, helping someone with his homework, doing yard work for a neighbor, giving compliments, and thanking people for their acts of kindness.

How can we be more humble?

Adore God daily, be thankful for all the gifts we have been given, serve others by putting them before ourselves and our needs.

Daily Pious Practice Reminder

  • Make a personal act of adoration three times each day.

Closing Prayer

Father of mercy, all things come from you and all things return to you. Enlighten the eyes of our hearts to see that everything comes from your mercy. We humbly recognize our littleness and surrender everything into your hands. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
