The Trauma of Sin

Posted by:

We recently moved to a new city and found an awesome Catholic community that we didn’t think possible (We moved here for a secular job). The Pastoral staff and fellow parishioners are incredible and even in the midst of the COVID pandemic restrictions we were able to meet some great people and get involved in activities with other Catholics. One of those activities for me was to work with another man to organize a Lenten based men’s fraternity in January ...

You Just Never Know

Posted by:

I meet lots of people in my line of work and in the work with our non-profit ministry to families and I am always amazed when someone shares with me the struggles they or members of their family are going through.  No one and no family is immune from trials and tribulations, some are just better at hiding what is going on behind closed doors.

Bearing and Sharing the Burden

Personal and family trials are difficult and are very hard to deal ...

Only the Good Die Young

Posted by:

Billy Joel wrote a very popular song back in the 70s named Only the Good Die Young. It is a very upbeat and catchy song in which he sings about prayers, rosaries, confirmation and Catholic family life.  The only problem with the song is that the author is not very happy about his encounters with one or more catholic families. Apparently the Catholics he met did not do a very good job of spreading the gospel or ministering to ...

Wow, that is a long time!

This past New Year’s Eve, my wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary.  We decided to make it a big deal and so we let our adult children throw us a party to celebrate the joyous event.  They rented a nice hall, brought in our favorite live band, had the event catered, bought a wedding cake, and invited a ton of our family and friends.  It was a very nice evening of fun, fellowship and dancing and a celebration ...

To Prom or Not to Prom, That is the Question

Posted by:

A few years ago around this time of year, I made an inquiry on my Facebook Status, “To Prom or not to Prom, that is the question”. I figured I might get a few responses, but after 36 comments over the course of 3 days from 21 different people, it seems there was no lack of opinions and interest in this subject. So I wrote a blog post about how we came to the decision for our oldest daughter.

The question ...

Family Funerals

Funerals, everybody loves attending them, right?  If you are like me, you don’t look forward to attending a funeral.  Depending on who died, it may be a very somber event.  In my forty five years on this earth I have attended funerals for the young, old cemetaryand ...

Family Matters

Posted by:

My wife and I are the only members of our family to have moved away from our hometown, the rest of our siblings chose to make their home fairly close to our parents, but we moved a mere three hours west to a smaller city.  So for the last 27 years we have raised our family and become a part of the community in Central Texas.  We were always the ones who drove in from out of town to be ...
